SV's Ciera Smith among art elite
Susquehanna Valley High School senior Ciera Smith has joined an elite group of young artists recognized by the Broome County Arts Council. At the 2019 BCAC Emerging Artists Competition and Exhibition, Ciera’s colored pencil piece True Colors won Best Composition - one of only six awards given out of a field of 82 art pieces selected for exhibition by area art teachers.

Each year, the Arts Council asks area high school art teachers to select up to a dozen pieces for judging by community professionals. Eight area high schools participated in this year’s competition in categories including Composition, Line and Color, Originality, Use of the Medium, Level of Difficulty and Best in Show.

Ciera was among 12 young artists from SV whose works were selected for the show, exhibited April 5-27 at the BCAC Artisan Gallery, 95 Court Street, Binghamton. Other SV artists whose art work was selected were: Logan Everson, Tanner Maynard, Alexis Warner, Richard Bedosky, Erin Clow, Shea Claudell, Ruth Yingling, Joshua Greene, Isaih O’Brien, Kara Swartwood and Kayla Miller.

The works were judged by Emily Jablon (Jablon Studios), Greg Chianis (Chianis & Anderson Architects), Judy Salton (artist), Alessandro Segalini (Assistant Professor at Department of Art and Design at BU), Joanne Arnold (artist) and Janice Wood (artist and Board President of FASST).
