SV Welcomes Senator Akshar

SV Welcomes Senator Akshar

On April 20, YES! Leads presentations at Francis P. Donnelly and Brookside Elementary Schools joined SV High School students and their younger peers in exploring strategies to make good life choices. Among those observing these final presentations of the YES! Leaders for the 2015-16 school year was 51st District NYS Senator Fred Akshar, from whose office the YES! Leads program originates.

Accompanied by Superintendent of Schools Roland Doig, and F.P. Donnelly Principal Jill Rich, Senator Akshar sat in on the presentations at FPD. Among the activities during the classroom presentations were several designed to show the dangers of smoking. In one activity, students were invited to perform strenuous exercise while only breathing through a very thin straw, to simulate how smoking causes you to feel out of breath.

Following the presentations, Senator Akshar and Mr. Doig were joined by Principals David Daniels and Natalie Brusker as he toured the halls and classrooms of SV High School and Richard T. Stank Middle School. The classroom stops put a great deal of focus on the use of technology, and our expanding iPads in the Classroom program.
