IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR PARENTS AND STUDENTS

We are following a NEW MASTER SCHEDULE in all of our buildings for the 2015-16 school year.  A team of faculty and administrators created the new schedule over a six month period, and recommended its implementation in the new school year.

At the elementary level:
  • Doors open for student drop-off at 8:40 a.m.
  • The school day begins at 8:50 a.m. and ends at 2:55 p.m.
  • At Francis P. Donnelly Elementary, the first bus drops students off at Conklin Presbyterian Church. Students are brought to the school beginning at 8:40 a.m.
  • Parents of Brookside Elementary students: the drop off and pick up locations remain the same: drop off at the door off the kindergarten playground; pick up at the school's main entrance.
  • Parents of Francis P. Donnelly Elementary students: the drop off and pick up location is at the south entrance of the school.
At the secondary level:
  • The school day begins at 7:40 a.m. - five minutes earlier than previous years.
  • First dismissal is at 2:20 p.m.
  • Second dismissal is at 3:00 p.m.
  • "Saber Time" at Richard T. Stank Middle School and Susquehanna Valley High School will be 10:32-11:02 a.m. each day.  "Saber Time" will allow students increased contact time with teachers for extra help during the school day.  In addition, it will be used as time for Middle School music ensembles to meet.
  • The new schedule maintains a 38-minute activity period Mondays through Thursdays for remediation, extra help, clubs, etc.  It also helps BOCES students get a period of instruction at the high school prior to departing for the BOCES campus.
Other important information:
  • Students will be expected to stay after school at a teacher's request Monday through Thursday. Students can stay for: extra help, remediation, clubs and activities.
  • There are no late buses on Fridays.
"The new schedule has a number of important advantages to help us best meet the needs of our students," said Roland Doig, Superintendent of Schools.  "It increases contact time between teachers and students for instruction and additional help they may need.  The refined schedule creates opportunities for shared faculty and staff between buildings, which is more efficient and represents a savings to our taxpayers.  We will evaluate the new schedule after one year and make any refinements as necessary."
