Heroes walk among us at Susquehanna Valley.

Friday, November 3rd was an amazing day at Brookside Elementary School. We held our monthly CUBS Assembly to recognize individual students and classrooms that best exemplified the word of the month in October: Courage. At the November 3 ceremony, we also launched the November PARP (Pick a Reading Partner) Program and introduced November's word of the month: Gratitude.

As we approach Veterans' Day, we used the occasion to express our gratitude for the courage of 13 military veterans who are part of our Sabers community:
Jonathan Wanglund, Regional Director, Clear Path for Veterans - Air Force
Albert Rood, (98 Years old - Served in WWII at Iwo Jima. His mother was a teacher at Brookside when it first opened!) - Marines
Arnie Deyo - Marines
Jerry Mullins (SRO) - Marines
Eric Miller - Marines
Dan Fitzgerald - Army
Robert McCloe - Army
Thomas Gallagher - Army
Jim Shaffer - Navy
William Bado - Navy
Frank Woodward - Navy
Gerald Dube - Coast Guard
Ken Jacobs - Air Force

Mr. Wanglund spoke to students about the courage and commitment that is shown by those who serve in our armed forces, and briefly shared with students what it means to be a veteran. We recognized each veteran individually, and our 4th/5th Grade Chorus led us in singing America the Beautiful and other patriotic songs to close our assembly.

Susquehanna Valley says THANK YOU to all who have served our country and continue to work hard in our community every day. We are grateful for your courage.

Additionally, staff members set up the White Table in our foyer, a display depicted in the picture book "America's White Table". Each symbol on the table represents the sacrifices made by our service members. The book was recorded for classrooms to watch this week.
