SV students look to build their futures at BOCES ConTech Day

It was a day for building futures.
Wednesday, October 4, hundreds of students from Susquehanna Valley and other school districts in our region converged at the Broome County Highway Department facility in Chenango Bridge for the annual Southern Tier Construction-Technology (Con-Tech) Career Day.
This event introduces students in grades 9-12 to the wide-ranging career opportunities in the Con-Tech trades. For many who attended, the learning stretched beyond exhibits and displays - they actually got to spend some (supervised) time at the controls of some heavy equipment, including bulldozers, backhoes, and dump trucks.
The event is organized by a consortium of groups, including the New York State Department of Transportation, the Broome County Highway Department, Broome-Tioga Workforce New York, Broome-Tioga BOCES Career Development Center, and several local companies and trade unions involved in the construction industry.
Thank you to SV's Heather Fitzgerald, who escorted the team of students from our schools and shared these great pictures.
