Sabers girls basketball players celebrate with STAC trophy STAC CHAMPIONS!
Riding a Valentine's Day wave of love from a lot of supporters, the Susquehanna Valley Sabers girls basketball team carried its unbeaten season to a STAC Championship, defeating Elmira 66-45. Maeve Donnelly and Alexis Drake led the scoring for the Sabers, with 24 and 18 points, respectively, while Trinasia Kennedy and Hannah Haskell marshalled the big blue wall of Sabers defense. Next up for the Sabers will be Class B sectionals. Plenty of pictures HERE from the championship game!

When nearly 900 regional high school students descended on the campus of Morrisville State College February 2, Susquehanna Valley's Ivan Gates was among them. And when the day's competition was through, Ivan was holding a first place trophy and a spot in the states.

The creepy, kooky Addams Family is headed to the Susquehanna Valley High School stage. Saber Stage Productions will present The Addams Family, a New Musical Comedy, February 23, 24 and 25.

Get a head start on the spring softball season with SV Sabers softball clinics! Three session are scheduled - February 11, February 25 and March 11 for junior players to develop offensive and defensive softball skills. THE CLINICS are open to girls in grades 4-6. We hope you will join us for some tuning up of throwing, catching and hitting!  
Pre-K and Kindergarten Registration
Susquehanna Valley Central School District will soon register children for Pre-K and Kindergarten. Registration will be held at the District Office March 12 through March 29, 8:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., and on March 21, 8:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.  Children who will be four (4) years of age on or before September 1, 2018 may be registered for Pre-K. Currently enrolled PK students do NOT need to complete another registration.  Children who will be five (5) years of age on or before December 1, 2018 may be registered for Kindergarten.  You MUST register in person.  Please call (607) 775-0170, ext. 0 if you have any questions.

We are excited and pleased to announce that Scott Snyder has been appointed as the Richard T. Stank Middle School principal starting in March 2018.

As you know, Mr. Snyder has served as the Middle School assistant principal and athletic director for the past two years.  In these capacities, he has established positive relationships with students, parents, staff and community.  Mr. Snyder is well respected by his colleagues.  He is known for being proactive and seeking positive outcomes when solving problems.  Before coming to Susquehanna Valley, Mr. Snyder was an elementary teacher at Owego-Apalachin Central School District with most of his time teaching sixth grade math and science.  While at Susquehanna Valley, he has been a valuable member of the district’s Administrative Cabinet working closely with curriculum initiatives and assessments with a focus on continual student growth.

In the meantime, Mr. Gerlach will continue to serve as the Middle School interim principal and work through the transitions of both Mr. Snyder’s new position as principal and appointing a new assistant principal/director of athletics.

District completes asbestos surveillance
Susquehanna Valley CSD has completed the inspection of all schools and buildings in accordance with the laws regarding asbestos as a potential health hazard for students, employees and visitors.  Also, a management plan has been developed in compliance with the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act, which includes training of maintenance staff for safe handling, periodic re-inspection, surveillance and limited abatement by trained personnel.  A copy of this management plan is available upon request by contacting Ralph Schuldt at 775-9156.

When the Press and Sun-Bulletin and its partner newspapers in Elmira and Ithaca published their annual list of the Binghamton Region's 24 best high school football players - THE ELITE 24 - there were two very familiar names and faces on the list: Susquehanna Valley's Sean Kane and Jarred Freije. These two stellar Sabers earned this elite recognition during the very successful 2017-18 Section IV football campaign.

The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund hosted a number of special ceremonies in November to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the completion of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C. One of those chosen to participate in the solemn Reading of the Names at "The Wall" was Daniel Fitzgerald, social studies teacher at SV's Richard T. Stank Middle School.

Broome-Tioga BOCES welcomed more than 300 students from 14 area school districts to its Glenwood Road facilities for Engineering Day, October 25. When the judging was through, three teams from Richard T. Stank Middle School and S V High School were among the top scorers!

2016 Voter-Approved Capital Project
On December 6, 2016, Susquehanna Valley Central School District voters overwhelmingly approved a $15.2 million capital improvement project. The margin was 313-35. State aid will cover nearly 84% of the cost of the project, capital reserves accounting for the remaining local share, resulting in a zero tax increase capital project. Voters also, by a margin of 313-37,  approved establishing a new capital reserve fund of $10 million over ten years.
