Susquehanna Valley High School junior James O'Dell was tops in his category at the NYS SkillsUSA State Competition in late April. By placing first in the Carpentry I/Cabinet making competition, James secured himself a trip to Atlanta, Georgia for the national compeition June 20-25. There, James turned in an outstanding performance, finishing 11th out of 36 competitors!
James and the other competitors who placed in the state competition will be feted at a May 18 dinner at Broome-Tioga BOCES.
SkillsUSA is a professional organization teaching technical, academic and employability skills that help high school and college students pursue successful careers. Members build these skills through student-led charitable acts, leadership conferences and other activities. Students in SkillsUSA participate in hands-on competitions in various fields such as science; technology; engineering; mathematics; building construction; and heating, ventilation and air conditioning.
