SV 8th graders get a little SPARK at SUNY-Broome
RTS students look at skeleton at SPARK event
For a while, there were no 8th grade students in the hallways and classrooms at Richard T. Stank Middle School on Wednesday, January 18. That's because the entire 8th grade student body was attending a career exploration event called SPARK at SUNY-Broome Community College. The event was sponsored by the Greater Binghamton Education Outreach Program, Broome-Tioga BOCES, Broome-Tioga Workforce, SUNY-Broome and The Agency. Hundreds of 8th grade students from around our region descended on the SUNY-Broome campus for up close and personal demonstrations and lessons on a wide variety of potential career paths; from health care to STEM to the trades to just about any job you can imagine! Dozens of area businesses offered more than 100 interactive activities and demonstrations. The RTS 8th graders were divided into ten teams to explore not only the types of jobs available in our region, but the educational paths they'll need to consider for those particular careers.
Here's how WICZ-Fox 40 covered the event (look for some familiar faces).
