megan and art work
Susquehanna Valley High School artists Megan Ketchum and Anthony Gee were selected for this year's Scholastic Art Awards program, hosted by the Arnot Museum, Elmira. In this, the 80th year of the museum’s association with the program, over 500 works were entered for adjudication, and 76 were chosen to receive an award. In addition, Gold Key winners will be sent to New York for National judging this spring.

Ketchum, a senior, received a Gold Key for her colored pencil drawing Candy Paradise, while Gee, a junior, received a Silver Key for his drawing The Brave and the Bold.

UPDATE!
In early February, at the Regional ceremony for the Scholastic Art Awards at the Clements Center in Elmira, Megan Ketchum's gold key winning work, Candy Paradise, was awarded an American Visions award.  The American Visions award is given to only 5 regional winners, considered the "best in show" and will continue on to national competition.

Nominees for this award must have a Gold Key work with an original, authentic voice or vision.  Jurors consider many factors that combine the recognition of talent and the representation of diverse mediums, viewpoints, and backgrounds. National jurors will then select one nominee from each region.

If accepted, Megan's artwork would be exhibited later this year at the National Scholastics Ceremony in New York City.

Remember, Megan and Anthony's pieces are still on exhibit. The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is the nation's longest-running, most prestigious recognition program for creative teens. The exhibition of winners from the twin tiers region will be open to the public through March 4 at the Arnot Art Museum, 235 Lake Street, Elmira, New York. The Museum is open from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm Tuesday to Friday, and 12:00-5:00 pm on Saturdays.
