We take immense pride in our dedicated SV Teachers and staff who consistently go above and beyond to support our students. This week, WICZ-TV's Teacher of the Week spotlight shines on Patricia Newman, a Special Education teacher at Brookside Elementary!
Inspired by her mother, a teaching assistant, and Mr. Mastropolo, a former teacher she had in third and fifth grades, Patricia has dedicated 23 years to being a Special Education teacher, with 21 of those years serving students in Susquehanna Valley schools. During high school, she assisted in her mother's elementary classroom and helped with after-school programs, always knowing she wanted to be a teacher. Her passion for education led her to enroll at SUNY Cortland.
In addition to her teaching role, Patricia is also the Co-Chair of Susquehanna Valley CSD's Elementary CSE (Committee on Special Education). She often reminds her students that we all make mistakes, which is part of the learning process. "Being a mom made me a better teacher, and being a teacher made me a better mom," she reflects.
