Reading Buddies building fluency, friendships

There is an exciting new activity happening in RTS!

Seventh and eighth grade students in Mrs. Ryder’s room have partnered up with eighth graders from Mrs. Loftus’s fourth period class as reading buddies.  The buddies were chosen based on their common interests, and the first day brought thirty nervous students together, many of them meeting for the first time.  Students shared books based on their interests, and everyone read aloud for about 30 minutes, taking turns and having fun.  Seventh grader Lucas Parks summed it up pretty succinctly: “This was so much fun!” His fellow seventh grader Sam Titus, agreed. “It was great to read with my friend from Cross Country!”  The program will continue throughout the school year on Fridays, focusing on fluency and comprehension, in addition to building positive relationships within the middle school.
