Sabers at Con Tech Career Day
Approximately 650 students from more than two dozen school districts in the Broome-Tioga region, including SV High, converged on the Broome County Highway Department Facility in Chenangno Bridge October 3 for the annual Construction and Technology Career Day. Students in grades 10-12 were able to not only learn about the skills sought for construction and technology, but actually put them into practice. For many students, the day's training involved supervised operation of heavy equipment such as bulldozers, backhoes and dump trucks.

This year's event was an expanded version of the Construction Career Day offered in past years, as it added focus on technologies involved in the construction trades. The event is specifically designed to introduce high school students to career opportunities and potential for advancement within these fields and the types of training they'll need to pursue them. CON•TECH Career Day is organized and supported by a consortium of groups, including Broome-Tioga BOCES, The NYS Department of Transportation, the Broome County Highway Department, Broome-Tioga Workforce of New York and others, including several local companies and trade unions.

The event is offered at no cost to the schools.
