One School, One Book at RTS
Richard T. Stank Middle School staff and students have begun a unique new reading program. At a kick-off event May 6, SV High School seniors Alyssa Lezotte and Jarred Freije helped launch the "One School, One Book" program, reading aloud from the book The Phantom Tollbooth, by Norton Juster. RTS students and staff devote one period per day to reading this book.  Every student and adult in the building received a free copy of the book, as did a number of local businesses. The businesses also received posters, marking their participation in the program. The posters serve a dual purpose. Not only do they demonstrate that business's support for One School, One Book, but they're a selfie backdrop. Each selfie a student or staff member snaps near the posters and submits will equal an entry into a drawing for prizes.  Participants can also earn an entry into a second drawing when they have their passport “stamped” as they travel on this book's exciting journey.  The program runs through June 10, culminating in a trip around the world celebration, where staff members will share photos and information about their favorite vacation destinations.  The One School, One Book committee at RTS includes Sara Loftus, Terri Howard, Leslie Lance, Rita Foran, William Leudemann, and Scott Snyder.
