Kara Swartwood awarded for poster design
The 4th Annual Lourdes Youth Servides Underage Drinking Prevention Poster contest is complete, and a design from one of our own highly talented young artists was judged among the best. Susquehanna Valley High School sophomore Kara Swartwood's poster - a silhouetted young man against a striking backdrop of reminders of the start consequences of underage drinking - won 4th place!

The poster contest, open to all Broome County high school students, is sponsored by the Lourdes Youth Services ADEPT (Alcohol and Drug Education Prevention Team) Program, part of Ascension Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton, Mirabito Energy Products, Broome County STOP-DWI, Drug Free Communities, Care Compass Network, and the Binghamton Rumble Ponies minor league baseball team.

Kara started her day Friday, April 26 with a visit from Rowdy, the Rumble Ponies mascot, who was joined by ADEPT Substance Abuse Prevention Specialist Laura Lacasse and members of her team. Kara was presented with a number of gifts and has been invited to be recognized on the field at a Rumble Ponies game May 1.

Incidentally, this is not the first time that Kara has come up with a winning design. She also created this year's SV HIgh School Class of 2021 shirt design and many of the High School Music program covers.
