A delicious way to study the phases of the moon
Perhaps it's never occured to you to that if you pull apart the two cookie parts that make up an Oreo and gradually chew away the yummy creamy filling - edging toward the middle - the result simulates what we see in the night sky as our moon goes through its familiar phases. Well, all of that DID occur to Mrs. Volkert, Ms. O'Connell, Mrs. Hashey, Mrs. Cortes (Mrs. Eckert and Mr. Ruffo stopped in, too) and their students, as they gathered in Mrs. Volkert's room April 5 to learn the phases of the moon "Oreo style".  Using their Oreos (which they later washed down with some cold milk), students gradually removed the creamy filling to show all 8 phases of our moon: New moon, Waxing Crescent, First Quarter, Waxing Gibbous, Full moon, Waning Gibbous, Third Quarter, and finally Waning Crescent. It was hard to decide which phase was the most delicious, but as you can tell from THESE PICTURES, the students and staff had a great time trying to decide.
