RTS Students take the App Challenge

Eight Richard T. Stank Middle School sixth-graders answered the call when Broome-Tioga BOCES hosted the Student App Challenge, co-sponsored by BAE Systems and Eastern Southern Tier STEM Hub. RTS put two teams to work designing an app and mastering related skills. The challenge: create an App to make your school education more effective.

Students had three weeks to design the app, code a prototype and create a commercial. They then presented their creation to the judges at B-T BOCES March 22.

The NETS team consisted of Corbin Rauch, James Root, Liam Tinder, and Christopher Streno. Their app, called NETS (New Electronic Topic Study), is designed to offer a fun game-like way for students to review their school work. The SELK Sisters team consisted of Sophia Harder, Leigha Jackson, Kealan Kinney and Jocelyn Whitman. Their app, called My Schedule, is for students and teachers to keep track of student schedules, so students always know where they are supposed to be and eliminates the stress of feeling lost.

Their coach, RTS Middle School Librarian Rita Foran said, "While our students did not win, they did an excellent job and I am very proud of all their hard work, the time and effort they put into this challenge."
