Maple carrots pass taste test at Brookside

Broome-Tioga BOCES’ “Rock On Cafe” continues its efforts to locally and regionally source as many breakfast and lunch menu items as possible and on March 15, Brookside Elementary students got to help decide the fate of one such offering.

Julie Raway, Registered dietician for Rock On Cafe, Hannah Rion, Farm to School Coordinator for Rural Health Network, and Tara Kenyon, Associate Director of Programs with Cornell Cooperative Extension, visited Brookside to cook up maple roasted carrots for students to try. Students who wished to participate sampled the carrots and provided their feedback, casting their vote in one of three columns: “Loved it!”, “Liked it!”, and “Not my favorite.” When the sampling and voting was done, the vast majority of Brookside students gave the maple roasted carrots an enthusiastic thumbs up!
