Colin Staiger loved chemistry when he was a student and wanted other students to love chemistry as much as he did. He credits the great teachers he had along the way for shaping his desire to become a teacher, along with his parents, who were also teachers. We are pleased to announce that his love for teaching science has paid off for Mr. Staiger as he has been selected to be part of the 2024-25 cohort of NYS Master Teachers!
What Mr. Staiger enjoys most about teaching is interacting with his students, creating connections with them, and continuing to learn about his content. He says his students help him do that by asking questions that challenge his understanding and force him to continue to learn right along with them.
He hopes that being a Master Teacher will deepen his knowledge of chemistry, help him to engage his learners, and broaden his understanding to enable him to crosscut his content into other areas of science. In science teaching, crosscutting concepts are one of the three dimensions of learning and teaching that are part of the Next Generation Science Standards.
The NYS Master Teacher Program network consists of outstanding teachers recognized for their dedication to providing the most innovative STEM education to their students, their commitment to professional growth, and their enthusiasm for sharing their successful practices with colleagues in their schools, districts, and regions.
