How do you spell winner? H-O-P-E!
How do you spell winner? H-O-P-E!

By virtue of their performance on a spelling test, twenty Richard T. Stank Middle School students earned the chance to take to the stage in front of the entire middle school student body at SV High School's auditorium to compete in the inaugural RTS Spelling Bee. It took several rounds of words before even one misspelling. As the words got tougher, the number of remaining contestants dwindled, until it was finally down to Hope Savercool and Marissa Sarantopolous. To clinch the crown, Hope successfully spelled "mahogany" and "avalanche". By virtue of their one-two finish, Hope and Marissa will be competing in the regional spelling bee at Corning/Painted Post March 4!

English Department staff Mrs. Howard, Mr. O'Leary, Mr. Valentine and Mr. Leudemann did a great job organizing and running the contest, with Principal Natalie Brubaker on hand to host and to hand out prizes to all the contests. Our thanks to area businesses who donated prizes!
