Brookside 5th graders present generous donation to American Red Cross
students with ceremonial check
On Friday, May 4, 5th grade students at Brookside Elementary School presented a check for $766 to Colleen McCabe, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Southern Tier Chapter.  The check represents the proceeds of a fundraiser conducted by the students as part of an English Language Arts projects on natural disasters. McCabe visited Brookside May 4 to talk about the work of the A.R.C., and to gratefully accept the students' donation.

"After learning how the Red Cross assists victims following natural disasters, the 5th grade ELA students cooperatively designed, organized and executed a number of projects to raise funds to support the local red cross," said 5th grade teacher Christine Titus. "The projects included a bottle drive, coin drives, a 'guess how much candy is in the jar' contest, 'Principal Punishment', a basket raffle, a 'spirit of giving' week activity, and a book sale. The 5th graders raised $766 dollars, which they presented to the Red Cross at a special ceremony May 4."
