R T S Middle School 8th grader Holden Wasko beat some big odds recently: being chosen from thousands of applicants to be among the select few to be invited to the United States Naval Academy STEM Camp in Annapolis, Maryland. Holden will be at the camp June 5-10, being immersed in STEM-centered engineering classes. Holden learned of the opportunity from a friend with whom he plays online flight simulation games. He applied in February and learned May 1 that he'd been selected for the camp. Holden's interests in flight simulation and pilot training (he's currently working toward a private pilot's license) and being a member of the Civil Air Patrol certainly made his application stand out. Holden has wanted to be a fighter pilot since he was a very young boy and is setting his sights on the specific training and education he'll need to secure his place in the seat of a fighter jet someday.
