SV Musicians hit it out of the park in Hershey

On Saturday, May 14, Jim Apicella, Kate Engle and Meggan Olds took the High School Concert Chorus and Concert Band to the Hershey Park Music in the Parks Festival.

The students were absolutely amazing - in behavior and in performance. Throughout the entire event, we witnessed students who went above and beyond to show kindness and compassion to their peers, their host schools, the chaperones and bus drivers, and to other workers and patrons in the park.

At the awards ceremony, SV students were recognized for their outstanding efforts. The Chorus and Band each placed first with ratings of Excellent. Julia Black, a senior member of both ensembles, was recognized with a special medallion as the outstanding overall Vocal Soloist in the entire festival.

And at the end of the awards, the groups were truly honored to be recognized as a school community for their sportsmanship, spirit, kindness and compassion. They received the final and most important award of the day: The Esprit de Corps awards.

Mrs. Olds thanked SV parents, administrators and staff for supporting the music program. "We never would have amazing performances and trips such as these without your support, and without the incredible education these students receive everyday from the entire SV community," Olds said. "The character and efforts of these young men and women are the result of a very special culture at SV. There is a reason that I have chosen not only to work here, but also to raise our children in the Susquehanna Valley family. Thank you for all that you do for our students."
