The School-to-Careers Partnership of Broome and Tioga Counties has selected Susquehanna Valley High School guidance counselor Mary Ellen Fennimore to receive its 2015 Outstanding Educator Award.  The award is in recognition of Ms. Fennimore's dedication to ensuring students are prepared to embark on an appropriate career path, according to a notification from STCP supervisor Sandra Watkins. This past summer, in a letter to Chief State School Officers, Arne Duncan, the US Secretary of Education said, “As educators across the country work to empower all students to meet the academic and career preparation demands of the 21st century, the role of school counselors has never been more important.”

"This is my seventeenth year at SV and I appreciate that our School Board has always been supportive of School-to-Careers programs like Youth Apprenticeship, Career Expo and New Visions," said Fennimore.  "These programs provide meaningful career development opportunities for our high school students.  It is vital for guidance counselors, educators, and businesses to unite, encouraging students to actively engage in career planning and preparation. The School-to-Careers Partnership brings us all together and I sincerely thank them for this award."

Fennimore accepted her award at the STCP annual recognition event June 3, 2015 at Broome-Tioga BOCES.
