The Susquehanna Valley Central School District Board of Education today announced the appointment of Roland Doig as superintendent of schools.
The appointment is effective February 2, 2015. Doig succeeds retiring superintendent Gerardo Tagliaferri.
“Susquehanna Valley is an outstanding school district and I am proud to be a part of it,” Doig said. “I am pleased and honored to be able to continue the relationships I have developed with students, staff and the community at Susquehanna Valley over the last 18 years. I look forward to strengthening these relationships as Superintendent of Schools, and building new relationships as we move forward together.”
Board President Robert Strick said Doig has the attributes the board was seeking in a new superintendent.
“Mr. Doig has demonstrated leadership as he has progressed within the district, most recently as middle school principal,” Strick said. “He has successfully mentored others during their professional development, and has been actively involved in many district-wide initiatives, including the Building Safety Committee. He has a proven commitment to this district and the board is very eager to work side-by-side with him as we strive to continue our pursuit of educational excellence in challenging times.”
In accepting the appointment, Doig praised the district’s workforce, noting, “In my years at Richard T. Stank Middle School – first as assistant principal and then as principal - I have been fortunate to work with an excellent faculty and staff in establishing a challenging and encouraging learning environment.”
The board unanimously approved Doig’s appointment at a meeting January 28. His contract will run through June 30, 2020, and calls for an initial salary of $140,000.
Doig’s appointment concludes a thorough and deliberative search conducted by the SV Board of Education with assistance from Broome-Tioga BOCES District Superintendent Allen Buyck.
