SV High's Emily Harding visits U.N.

As some 400 exceptional young people from across the globe converged at the United Nations in New York City February 17 and 18, Susquehanna Valley High School junior Emily Harding was among them. Harding was selected to attend the Winter Youth Assembly - a gathering of youth leaders, UN officials and staff, young professionals, and others, to examine the role young people will play in shaping and implementing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

Harding, a member of the high school Mock Trial team, envisions for herself a future in International Law. She is excited about the opportunity presented by the UN Youth Assembly - especially for the chance to get to know people from other countries. “My goal is to share my perspective, and hear others’,” she said. “It’s valuable to consider all perspectives in solving problems.”

This is not Emily’s first such major gathering. In July, she attended an 8-day HOBY (Hugh O’Brien Youth) Leadership workshop in Chicago. HOBY, like the UN Youth Assembly, is designed to help shape the leaders of tomorrow.
