Maria Christoff Shines at STC

It was Maria Christoff's night to shine when the School-to-Careers Partnership of Broome and Tioga Counties hosted its 18th annual Partnership for Excellence Recognition Event, Wednesday, June 3 at Broome-Tioga BOCES.  Not only was the SV High School senior awarded a Glass Apple "Outstanding Student" award, but Maria was also presented with a $1,000 Youth Apprenticeship Scholarship.  The scholarship is awarded to an outstanding youth apprentice who plans to pursue a career directly related to her work-based learning experience. Maria, who plans to pursue a career in diagnostic medical stenography, spent significant time shadowing professionals in that field at Lourdes Hospital.  While Maria was one of 19 outstanding local students recognized at the event, she was singularly spotlighted in area media's coverage of the ceremony, by the Press and Sun-Bulletin and WICZ-TV. Also singled out for recognition was SV High School Guidance Counselor Mary Ellen Fennimore, who was presented with a Glass Apple Award as STC Partnership for Excellence Outstanding Educator Award.
