Farm to Schools visits Brookside

During lunch blocks on October 12, Brookside Elementary School students got a sample of the kind of locally-sourced "Farm to Schools" offerings making their way on to our breakfast and lunch menus. Katy Fortman, Cornell University Dietetic Intern and Tom Lewis, from the Food and Health Network set up a TASTE-TESTING LOCATION in the cafeteria, offering a sampling of an apple/pear slaw featuring locally or regionally grown produce. We can expect this farm-to-schools movement to continue to grow, as Susquehanna Valley's Food Service, part of the Broome-Tioga BOCES Rock On Cafe, works hard to provide our students with enticing and nutritious menu items.
