SV High Senior Sean Kane is Akshar All Star

Sean Kane and Senator Akshar

New York State Senator Fred Akshar has been making the rounds to area school districts recently, recognizing students who have demonstrated the kind of work and behavior that makes them an all-star among their peers. On Friday, May 11, his travels brought him to Shauna Cody's Susquehanna Valley High School math class, where senior Sean Kane sat, absorbing a lesson, unaware that he was in for some special recognition.  The senator was accompanied by members of his staff and Sean's family - parents Kevin and Kate and sister Jacqueline. Superintendent of Schools Roland Doig introduced Senator Akshar, who announced that Sean had been nominated and chosen to join the swelling ranks of Akshar's All-Stars.  In brief remarks, the senator cited Sean's work ethic, athletic and academic abilities and his determination as some of the reasons he was chosen.  Sean received a t-shirt, a framed certificate and a challenge coin, which - true to form - he humbly and graciously accepted.  When asked by Senator Akshar if he had any advice for his classmates, he told them to always work hard, keep trying and do their best, no matter what the challenge. MORE PHOTOS
