SV Board Reopens Superintendent Search

Susquehanna Valley School Board President Robert Strick has announced that the Board of Education is reopening its search for a successor to retiring Superintendent Gerardo Tagliaferri.

The board recently selected Joseph Dyer to replace Tagliaferri in January.  However, Dyer has informed the district that he has decided to remain at his current position as superintendent of the Tuckahoe School District on Long Island, where a proposed merger with a neighboring school district was defeated by voters November 18.

Strick said the board will review its options and will also discuss the potential need for an interim superintendent until a permanent successor can take the helm.

"Even though we must resume the process, the time already spent has been very productive for our board," Strick said.  "It has helped us identify and focus on the attributes that we think are critical to finding the right person to lead our school district."

Strick said the board will soon develop a timetable for the reopened search.

"This is a great school district with an established record of sound leadership.  I have every confidence that we will continue to be an attractive option for potential superintendent candidates," he said.

UPDATE: At a December 10 meeting, the board amended the retirement date for Mr. Tagliaferri, extending it to January 30, 2015.  The resolution read as follows:
