Susquehanna Valley Odyssey of the Mind teams make impression!
At the Odyssey of the Mind regional competition March 8 at Broome-Tioga BOCES, teams from Susquehanna Valley High School and Richard T. Stank Middle School walked way with a first place, a tie for second place and a third place finish! The high school team scored the top prize in the Tee Structure Division III competition and tied for second in The Eccentrics! Division III.
The middle school team finished third in the Tee Structure Division II competition.
Four teams competed from Donnelly Elementary School. Members of Mrs. Black's team (pictured below) are Jhane Basmajian, Jared Basmajian, Julia Black, Vincent Cooper, Mira Hailu, Kaitlyn Stewart and Erika Harder; Mrs. Waite's team: Christina Waite, Natalie Hogan, Alexandra Ferrante, Amy Storti, Gina DelVillano and Amelia Terwilliger; Mrs. Stewart's team: Kyle Janeski, James Gardner, Jonathan Holmberg, Kendra McPeek, Rebekka Stewart and Abigail Rose; Mrs. McPeek's team: Ryan Lehtonin, Lauren McPeek, Daniel Shultz, Jordan Major, Barbara Reynolds, Danielle Green and Elice Jones.
Brookside Elementary School sent a team to compete in Road Rally, Division I. The team, coached by Mrs. Manchester and Mrs. Cederholm, placed 5th out of 14 teams and scored 1st Place in the "Spontaneous" portion of the tournament. Team members: Noah Starke, Celia Clifford, Cameron Manchester, Justin Caroway, Joe Osgood, Julia Allen and Justin Wheeler.

and Rose Green; Tee Structure: Shaneka Rodriguez, Sara Orzel, Troy Palmer, Christian Holmberg, Cameron Black, Neil Chapel and Aaron Cornish; Road Rally: Brendan Telfer, Andrew Cazer, Eric VonWeinstein, Adam Terboss, Marc Yezzi, Tyler Fish and Colin Manchester; Dino Stories: Kellen Chapman, Joe Toman, Joe Naro, Shayne Rodriguez, Anne Normile and Michael Miller. Coaches: Mr. Mydlinski, Mr. Vimislik, Mrs. Yeager, Mr. Pavlovich and Mr. VonWeinstein.

From SV High School, the Tee Structure team had to build a structure made of only balsa wood and glue that could withstand a heavy load. In the regional competition, the structure supported more than 350 pounds, but when the team replicated the demonstration at a special assembly March 19, it supported nearly 900 pounds! The high school also entered a team in The Eccentrics! SV High School Odyssey of the Mind participants are Melissa Foster, Beth Watson, Doug Osgood, John Rudy, Brad Dougherty, Jordan Telfer, Emily Markstein, Tricia Gorman, Vincent Chong and Brian Grill. Mr. Watson is the coach. The teams are pictured below presenting two regional trophies to Mr. Daniels, SVHS Principal.
