Donnelly Students Shine in Reflections Program

Twenty-one students from SV's Francis P. Donnelly Elementary School participated in the 2007-08 National PTA "Reflections" Program. The program challenges students to express through a variety of media their thoughts and opinions on a singular theme. This year's theme: "I can make a difference by..."

These students submitted "Reflections" entries, in Visual Arts, Dance, Music, Photography and Literature: Jhane Basmajian, Julia Black, Sarah Coddington, Zachary Finney, JD Gardner, Connor Gorman, Olivia Gorman, Danielle Green, Zoe Johnston, Zachary Latting, Hannah Merrick, Nicholas Miller, Tyler Miller, Natalie Murphy, Clare Osborn, Abigail Rose, Katarina Stockton, Christina Waite, Marisa Whitman, Cassidy Yetter, Tori Zurn. (students whose names are italicized earned a spot in the regional competition).
"REFLECTIONS" UPDATE:
Two Donnelly students have been recognized at the state level in the 2007-08 PTA "Reflections" program. Sarah Coddington and Julia Black received New York State "Awards of Merit". By notching first place recognition in their respective categories at the school and regional level, the girls' entries were automatically entered at the state level. NY State had 31,000 entries overall and each division had between 200-300 entries. The top four state winners have their entries displayed at the NYS convention in Albany. Sarah won in the Musical Composition primary division and Julia won in the Photography intermediate division.

A Happy Ending for PARP at Donnelly
It's a wrap on the 2008 version of People as Reading Partners (PARP) at Donnelly. Just as they were for the kick-off March 3, Snow White and the Seven Dwarves were on hand March 19 for the closing assembly. As usual, the PARP program featured a series of guest readers coming into the classrooms to share their love of reading with students. This year's theme: "Vote for Reading!" The dwarves mounted campaigns for "president" and the winner, elected by students: Happy! Other activities included "Turn Off the TV and Read".

Donnelly Students Celebrate Mozart's Birthday

The Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart hasn't been walking among the living for quite some time, but that's no reason to let his birthday pass without enjoying his music, playing a Mozart board game and sharing some birthday cake in his honor.
