Nice Going Neil!
He’s only in eighth grade, but Neil Chapel’s math skills have skipped ahead a couple of grades! Neil took the tenth grade math test as part of the American Mathematics Competition (AMC) and passed with flying colors (gold and blue)! RTS Middle School Principal Roland Doig presented Neil with a pin and certificate to mark his accomplishment.

Donnelly Students Shine in Reflections Program
Twenty-one students from SV's Francis P. Donnelly Elementary School participated in the 2007-08 National PTA "Reflections" Program. The program challenges students to express through a variety of media their thoughts and opinions on a singular theme. This year's theme: "I can make a difference by..."
These students submitted "Reflections" entries, in Visual Arts, Dance, Music, Photography and Literature: Jhane Basmajian, Julia Black, Sarah Coddington, Zachary Finney, JD Gardner, Connor Gorman, Olivia Gorman, Danielle Green, Zoe Johnston, Zachary Latting, Hannah Merrick, Nicholas Miller, Tyler Miller, Natalie Murphy, Clare Osborn, Abigail Rose, Katarina Stockton, Christina Waite, Marisa Whitman, Cassidy Yetter, Tori Zurn. (students whose names are italicized earned a spot in the regional "Reflections" competition).
"REFLECTIONS" UPDATE:
Two Susquehanna Valley students have been recognized at the state level in the 2007-08 PTA "Reflections" program. Sarah Coddington and Julia Black received New York State "Awards of Merit" in the PTA Reflections "I Can Make A Difference By..." contest. By notching first place recognition in their respective categories at the school and regional level, the girls' entries were automatically entered at the state level. New York State had 31,000 entries overall and each division had between 200-300 entries. The top four state winners have their entries displayed at the NYS convention in Albany. Sarah became a state winner in the Musical Composition primary division and Julia became a state winner in the Photography intermediate division. The pair will receive a certificate and ribbon.

Scholastic Art Awards 2008

Bravo! to Maria Salva, who received the American Visions Award for the New York and Pennsylvania Region 1 Scholastic Art Award Exhibition. Maria was one of only five students to receive the award out of the 150 works accepted into the show. Maria's painting That Which is Human will move onto the national competition in New York City.
Over 450 works of art were submitted from regional schools for this year's competition. Susquehanna Valley High School had 6 works of art accepted into the exhibition:

The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards offer early recognition to creative teenagers and scholarship opportunities for graduating high-school seniors. The Awards are national in scope and administered by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers. The process begins across the country as young artists and writers submit creative works of art and writing to a network of affiliate programs of the Alliance Supported by their visual arts and writing teachers and other community mentors, participants create and submit their best works.
At the regional level, award recipients are recognized with lapel pins and certificates. Regional recognition includes Gold and Silver Key Awards, and Honorable Mention Awards. Affiliates also select American Visions & Voices Award Nominees as “Best of Show” for their region. Gold Key Awards become national qualifiers.
