| Real Life Lessons in a Five Pound Bag
At Susquehanna Valley High School, teachers are always looking for "out of the box" training methods. As Mrs. Chavez recently proved in her "Flour Baby" project, they're also not opposed to out of the BAG methods. During a "Child Development" unit in Family and Consumer Sciences, students were required to care for a "baby" for five days. In this case, the babies were (often creatively decorated and dressed) bags of flour to simulate a newborn child.
"The flour bags represented real babies," Chavez said. "The project taught students responsibility for another person and the challenges that come along with being a new parent."
