Held jointly with BOE Community Public Relations Committee

September 9, 2008

 

Present are: Ralph Schuldt, Jim Marean, Janice Young, Jerry Derrick, Eleanor Hamilton, Mary Rader, Chris Miller, Gerardo Tagliaferri, Brian Horton, Jack Bell, Mark Bordeau, Jim Hull, Julia Bowers, Ed Bernhauer (BCK), Bob Costello (BCK), Amy Henry (BCK), Susan Christiansen  (BCK).

 

*      Focus of meeting is determining the best strategies to inform public about capital project.

*      List of questions and possible answers distributed.  BCK provided updated, amended Q & A list.

*      Group discusses "rumored" end of EXCEL.  There is no credible state source for such a rumor.

*      BCK says it has satisfactorily addressed questions from SHIPO.

*      Confirmed that Donnelly Elementary was built in 1962; others built in 1957.

*      Financial Advisors still calculating tax impact numbers.

*      Group discusses schedule for dissemination of information to public.

*      Mr. Tagliaferri recaps presentation given to staff the day before school started, regarding the work of the committee and impending project.

*      Group discusses public information campaign.

*      Public meetings: first at Brookside, then secondary campus, then Donnelly.

*      Group discusses most recent tax impact numbers for homes assessed at 60K, 80K and 100K.

*      These figures are based on this year's assessments.

*      Group still needs to discuss public presentations: who will present and what information.

*      Discussion on difficulty of promoting/publicizing project that is 60% mechanical/electrical.
