Mrs. Young, Board President, called the meeting to order at 7:06 p.m. and led the salute to the American flag.
RECORD OF ATTENDANCE Mrs. Haskell made a motion, seconded by Mrs. Hamilton, to accept into record the attendance for the March 15, 2007 Regular Meeting of the Board of Education. Upon vote the motion was approved unanimously. (7 yeses)
APPROVAL OF MINUTES Mrs. Hamilton made a motion, seconded by Mrs. Bowers, to approve the minutes of the March 5, 2007 Special Meeting of the Board of Education. Upon vote the motion was approved unanimously. (7 yeses)
VOICE OF THE PUBLIC #1 Mr. Tom Lamantia voiced his concern with getting enough gym time for two traveling basketball teams this past year. Mrs. Young replied that the facilities usage policy needs to be looked at with Mr. Tagliaferri and Mr. Abbey soon so that everyone who requests to use the school facilities during the 2007-08 school year will know by the beginning of the year what the schedule will be.
FINANCIAL REPORT Mrs. Bowers made a motion, seconded by Mrs. Hamilton, that the Board acknowledge receipt of the February financial reports. Upon vote the motion was approved unanimously. (7 yeses)
SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT Mr. Tagliaferri
Resolutions Mr. McGuigan made a motion, seconded by Mrs. Haskell, to approve the following resolutions:
Instructional Leave of Absence that Cory Valentine, Brookside teacher, be granted a paid paternity leave of absence, anticipated date of March 19-23, 2007. He will use discretionary days and Family and Medical Leave.
Long-Term Substitute Teachers that the appointment be approved of Anita Sitarski as a certified long-term substitute teacher, assignment at Brookside, during Amy Cortes' leave of absence, expected to begin March 12 through December 17, 2007, at a $188.02 per diem with no sick days or personal days; and that the appointment be approved of Lauren Martin as a certified long-term substitute teacher, assignment at Donnelly, during Alexia Miller's leave of absence, expected to begin March 7 through June 22, 2007, at a $188.02 per diem with no sick days or personal days.
Project Lead the Way to accept a check in the amount of $260 from the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) as a mini grant for our participation in Project Lead the Way.
Surplus Wrestling Mat to discard the original 1952 surplus wrestling mat.
Donation that be it RESOLVED, that the Board of Education hereby accept the donation of the following
items from SV Grid Iron for installation in the High School weight room:

Insurance Recovery Revenue that be it RESOLVED, that the Susquehanna Valley Board of Education does and hereby approves an increase of the 2006-07 budget in the amount of $6,827.03, and hereby appropriates the
amount into the General Fund as follows:

BOCES Trustee Nominations Mrs. Hamilton made a motion, seconded by Mrs. Bowers, that the Susquehanna Valley CSD Board of Education nominates the following individuals to fill the office of BOCES Board of Education
member:
Sandra Ruffo, Ursula Hambalek, and Peter Nowacki
Upon vote the motion was approved unanimously. (7 yeses)
Annual Meeting Vote Mrs. Bowers made a motion, seconded by Mrs. Haskell, that be it RESOLVED, that the Legal Advisor and the District Clerk make the necessary preparations for the Annual Budget Hearing to be held Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at the Susquehanna Valley Senior High School Auditorium in the Town of Conklin, County of Broome,
at 7:00 p.m.
That budget vote and the balloting for the election of Board members is to be held on Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at the Susquehanna Valley Senior High School in the Town of Conklin, County of Broome, between the hours of 12:00 p.m.
(noon) and 9:00 p.m., and that the voting machines are to be used for voting.
That the District Clerk is hereby authorized and directed to give proper notice of said meeting and notice dates.
Upon vote the motion was approved unanimously. (7 yeses)
Extra Instructional Duty Assignments (Revision) Mrs. Bowers made a motion, seconded by Mrs. Hamilton, that
the revision be approved of the extra duty teacher assignments for the second semester for the following teachers:
Richard Brice 2 sections AIS $834
Evan Romer 3 sections AIS $1250
Upon vote the motion was approved unanimously. (7 yeses)
The Board was provided with the adopted BOCES 2007-08 calendar. There are two BOCES-wide conference days scheduled. The District calendar will be discussed with administrators to determine any additional conference days to be scheduled. Music happenings for March is Music in Our Schools Month and an invitation to the BOCES annual business meeting on April 4 were provided to the Board. A copy of a letter going to all residents on behalf of the Budget Advisory Committee was provided to the Board. The letter talks about the impact of the flooding on district wealth and taxes and asks for help in lobbying to secure additional state and federal aid. Mr. Tagliaferri commended Mr. Hull for the news coverage on Newschannel 34 this month. Mr. Renner's Media Arts Class was featured as the "Classroom of the Day" on March 7 and Mr. Blenco's Middle School Modular Technology Lab was featured on March 10. Mr. Tagliaferri reported that Donnelly had a successful Family Math Night on March 1. The NYS Math Assessments for grades 6-8 are taking place this week. Mr. Wilson was the District representative at a presentation by Dr. Michael McGregor on pandemic flu outbreak. A good report was received from the School Meals Initiative Review.
ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT No Report
VOICE OF THE ADMINISTRATORS Mr. Gerlach reported that the recycling of the used computers from Cedarhurst was completed this week. Everything is running smoothly with the computers with the new federal DST time frame. Mr. Gerlach reported that Mr. Wilson is working on a Microfit grant with two Middle School teachers, Mrs. Bidwell and Mr. Ford.
Mr. Abbey reported that the garbage pickup vendor has been changed and recycling does not need to be sorted any more. This should make it easier to recycle and not have as much trash, which may lower the cost.
Mr. Daniels reported on events for the High School. Odyssey of the Mind will take place this weekend. Dollars for Scholars held a successful fundraiser and received over $9,500 in pledges. The Texas Roadhouse fundraiser was successful. Sound of Music will be performed this weekend. The Mock Trial team has been successful so far. The music concert is being held on Tuesday, March 20. The Grid Iron is holding a spaghetti dinner fundraiser on March 20. The following students have been accepted into the Scholastic Art Awards exhibition at the Arnot Art Museum in Elmira, New York: Katherine Banko, Honorable Mention Photography; Whitney Huntley, Honorable Mention Photography; James Bedrin, Honorable Mention Mixed Media; Maria Salva, Honorable Mention Drawing; Marita Paredez, Honorable Mention Drawing; Elise Modrak, Silver Key Drawing. Mr. Daniels introduced Brandon Freeland, Class of 2007 Valedictorian. Molly McGuigan and Adam Bezek have been nominated for the NYS Lottery Leaders of Tomorrow scholarship. Mr. Daniels reported on a black plague reenactment taking place at the High School.
Mr. Hull reported that the jazz ensemble performed at the end of the newscast on Newschannel 34 tonight. There was an article in the Press & Sun-Bulletin on the Donnelly Odyssey of the Mind team.
BOARD OF EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT REPORT Mrs. Hamilton reported on issues discussed at the
March 9 meeting with Assemblyman Crouch, Senator Libous, and Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo.
Executive Session Mrs. Bowers made a motion, seconded by Mrs. Haskell, that the Board of Education meet in
Executive Session to discuss negotiations and personnel. Upon vote the motion was approved unanimously. (7 yeses)
At 7:48 p.m. the Board recessed
At 8:00 p.m. the Board met in Executive Session
At 10:15 p.m. the Board returned to Regular Session
MOTION TO ADJOURN Mr. McGuigan made a motion, seconded by Mrs. Hamilton, that the meeting be adjourned. Upon vote the motion was approved unanimously. (7 yeses)
There being no further business, Mrs. Young adjourned the meeting at 10:16 p.m.
