When you enter the voting booth May 16

  • You will be asked to consider a spending plan for the 2017-18 school year totaling $38,584,919. This represents an increase in spending over the current year’s budget of $1,303,840 or 3.50% and calls for an increase in the district property tax levy of 1.46%. Please note this figure includes an expired PILOT agreement with Impress USA, Inc. re-entering the Tax Roll. This accounts for an additional 0.66% on the tax levy that was paid solely by Impress USA, Inc. The actual tax levy increase to the SV taxpayer is 0.80%.
  • You will be asked to fill two seats (three-year terms) on the Susquehanna Valley Board of Education. Those seats are currently held by Mary Haskell and Jordan Jicha.  Mrs. Haskell is seeking re-election. Mr. Jicha is not. Two candidates submitted the necessary petitions to appear on the ballot: Mary Haskell and Kelly Howe. 
  • You will be asked to consider a bus purchase proposition. You will vote on a measure authorizing the District to purchase two (2) 66-passenger buses, each at a cost not to exceed $115,847.56; one (1) wheelchair bus, at a cost not to exceed $141,355.05; and one (1) 18-passenger bus at a cost not to exceed $55,580.00 for an estimated total of $428,630.17 after trade-in to be repaid over five years through bonds. 

SV Voter Requirements
According to Susquehanna Valley Board of Education Policy #1170, a person shall be entitled to vote for the election of school district officers, and upon all other matters which may be brought before district voters who is:
  • A citizen of the United States
  • At least eighteen (18) years of age
  • A resident within the district for a period of thirty days next preceding the meeting at which they offer to vote.
District election officials shall require voters at any school district meeting or election to provide proof of residency and/or age. Acceptable forms of such proof are a driver’s license, a non-driver identification card containing the required information, a tax or utility bill (residency proof) or a birth certificate (age proof). In the absence of such proof of residency and/or age, the voter shall be required to sign a declaration of qualification as provided under Section 2019 of the Education Law, and upon such execution, the individual shall be entitled to vote.

Any person who willfully makes a false statement or representation about his or her qualifications to vote may be subject to civil or criminal penalties as provided under law.

Absentee Ballot information
Absentee ballots are available for qualified voters who cannot appear in person due to the following reasons:
  • Illness or physical disability.
  • Out of town due to business, studies or duties.
  • Out of town on vacation.
  • Detained in jail awaiting grand jury action, awaiting a trial, or confined in prison for an offense other than a felony.
To request an application for an absentee ballot, qualified voters should call Karen Mullins, Secretary to the Superintendent, at 775-9100. Once a request is received, an application form will be mailed. To receive absentee ballot information by mail, the application must be requested no later than Monday, May 8, 2017. All completed absentee ballots must be received by the school district clerk at the district office by 12:00 p.m. (noon) on Tuesday, May 16, 2017.

SV Polling Place is high school gymnasium When you vote Tuesday, May 16, 2017, you will do so in the SV High School Gymnasium. On voting day, there will be ample reserved parking for voters only in the parking lot behind SV High School.
When you come to vote:
1.) Enter the high school campus near the tennis courts.
2.) Drive around to the rear of the high school - follow the signs and/or the volunteers who will be on hand to point you in the right direction.
3.) Enter the gymnasium through the doors pictured above.
4.) Sign in, cast your ballot and exit the gymnasium.
